I bought a non contact thermometer with the excuse of using it on the Karmann Ghia, which does not have any sort of temperature gauge, but so far I’ve checked the temp of water, the TV, my computer, the cat, this glass of water, and all of the furniture. 10/10 would recommend.

I know this feeling so well.

I’ve been trying to justify buying one.

I bought one as well for absolutely no reason. I love it!

But the better question is: can you use it as a rectal thermometer from across the room?

Excellent work.

Can you check the temp of a piece of paper? This is very important for me.

THIS. This is THE question we absolutely must have an answer to. You’ve got to have pretty good aim though for that shot.

Damn. Now I want one. Because I need to know the temperature of.... of... um.... that. Yeah, that. That thing. Over there. You know, that thing. That’s why I need one. That’s plenty of reason. I’m going to the store now.

hmm there is a cheap one on Amazon for $17!

They are great for when cleaning the car and applying coatings or sealants. Panels that are too hot can cause the product to flash off or cure incorrectly also even cleaning a car if the vehicle is too hot can cause any cleaning agent to dry onto the vehicle leaving spots or worse causing damage to the clearcote.

It has a laser sight, so aim is not the issue

It has a spread of 1” for each foot, so assuming a 9 foot wide room, you’d have to be able to stretch your anus to a diameter of 9 inches to guarantee an accurate reading

I bought one a while back...ostensibly for monitoring tire temps across the tread section to get an idea on where I was in relation to my optimum pressures. So far though, it’s been used on pretty much everything but those.

I believe that is the exact one I bought. There was a Kinja deal for $5 off the other day, so I bought it.
Edit: Yes, it is the exact one I bought.

You can check the temp of anything you damn well please

Do or do not, there is no try

Maybe with Goatse man, but generally not.

Oh shit I didn’t even think about that, I’m so doing it

Impressive.

It’s something a lot of track & autocross folks do. High temps in the middle mean you’re over pressure, low temp in the middle means you’re under. That said, the most legitimate thing I’ve used it on so far is my grill since the thermometer on it is broke, and I’m too lazy to replace it :D

Yeah, I’ve heard of doing that before, but it just never occurred to me that I now have one of my own and can do it myself. I do plan on using it to make tea as well, since some leaves can be pretty temperature sensitive and my electric kettle doesn’t have a temperature adjust.

Lol, I have that exact same one. I used it in college because my suite had a really shitty oven and this helped me keep the temperatures right. I would measure all the corners of my room and my desktop too when it was under full load.

I have absolutely zero use for one of these, which means that I need to have one ASAP. How much are they?

There are a few on Amazon in the $15-20 ish range. Buy one, figure out uses when you get it

I have one also, looks like the same model too. I use it a lot in the kitchen for cooking/baking. And checking the temperature of random shit. My wife thinks I’m crazy.

Too late! I just ordered one. Aaaand I threw in one of those mini-quadcopter-thingies. Why buy one man-toy for the price of one, if you can have two man-toys for he price of two? Right?
disclaimer: Störtebecker Keller-Bier might have had some say in this decision.

I tried one of these at a clear blue sky. It read -7°C.
Seven degrees below freezing water. What exactly was it measuring? The stratosphere’s temperature?

Turns out outer space is warmer than we thought

I just tried it for myself and got the same result. I am now very curious. It’d be one thing to just return a “too low” or “too high”reading, but to return a specific, fairly normal, but also rather low value is really pretty odd.

Also cats love the laser. I use mine for checking a fry pans temp if a radiator hose is up to temp.

This! If you are painting a car its really important to make sure its the temp of the air so your hardners and crap work properly.

Klaus, you will be surprised how many things you will use it for after you have it. I love mine.

I don’t think I ever killed a 9v battery so fast when I got mine :D

The knowledge, or the ability to stretch an anus 9”in diameter?
![]() 09/21/2015 at 21:22 |

And you can torture the cats for fun and profit. Thats what I do.

But are you hands steady enough?

As I said, I think some layer of the atmosphere returned the laser, or its optics define a top range. Now why exactly minus seven we will never know.
